Market and Economic Commentary – 3rd Quarter 2026
The 3rd quarter was more challenging and uneven than the strong rebound investors enjoyed in the spring. The ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran broke down in July, sending oil prices sharply higher, and with inflation still above target, the Federal Reserve raised interest rates in September for the first time in more than three years. Even so, corporate earnings remained exceptionally strong, the economy continued to grow, and the S&P 500 set new record highs in August.
